Last Letter!!!

July 28, 2009

Gabriel was a famous writer from Colombia and has a form of cancer which is terminal. He has sent a farewell letter to his friends before his death (in poetic form which was turned in a letter format afterwards)...

"If God, for a second, forgot what I have become and granted me a little bit more of life, I would use it to the best of my ability. I wouldn't possibly, say everything that is in my mind, but I would be more thoughtful of all I say. I would give merit to things not for what they are worth, but for what they mean to express...

I would sleep less, I would dream more, because I know that for every minute that we close our eyes, we waste 60 seconds of light. I would walk while others stop; I would stay awake while others sleep. If God would give me a little bit more of life, I would dress in a simple manner, I would place myself in front of the sun, leaving not only my body, but my soul naked at its mercy….

To all, I would say how mistaken they are when they think that they stop falling in love when they grow old, without knowing that they grow old when they stop falling in love….

I would give wings to children, but I would leave it to them to learn how to fly by themselves. To old people I would say that death doesn't arrive when they grow old, but with forgetfulness. I have learned so much with you all, I have learned that everybody wants to live on top of the mountain, without knowing that true happiness is obtained in the journey taken & the form used to reach the top of the hill.
I have learned that when a newborn baby holds, with its little hand, his father's finger, it has trapped him for the rest of his life.

I have learned that a man has the right and obligation to look down at another man, only when that man needs help to get up from the ground.. Say always what you feel, not what you think. If I knew that today is the last time that I am going to see you asleep, I would hug you with all my strength and I would pray to the Lord to let me be the guardian angel of your soul…

If I knew that these are the last moments to see you, I would say "I love you".
There is always tomorrow, and life gives us another opportunity to do things right, but in case I am wrong, and today is all that is left to me, I would love to tell you how much I love you & that I will never forget you. Tomorrow is never guaranteed to anyone, young or old.

Today could be the last time to see your loved ones, which is why you mustn't wait; do it today, in case tomorrow never arrives. I am sure you will be sorry you wasted the opportunity today to give a smile, a hug, a kiss, and that you were too busy to grant them their last wish.

From you I have learned so many things,
but in truth they won't be of much use,
for when I keep them within this suitcase,
unhappily shall I be dying.

With much love,

Your Friend,

Gabriel Garcia Marquez

REVISIT LIFE!!!

July 25, 2009

"When I was a child, I wanted to draw like an adult.
When I became an adult, I always wanted to draw like a child."

These are the words of the famous artist Pablo Picasso. When I first heard my father recite these words, I was around 8 and at that time, I didn't quite see much logic in it. Now, 13 years later, I have understood the meaning of these words like never before.

My passion for various things might have evolved over the years, from books to music to tennis to Science, but there is still a part of me that longs for that old love for art and my childhood days, when even if you make a rectangular shape orange your parents and teachers appreciated it.

This life has got something for everyone and as they say "we all have a purpose here." But it's sad when we see people in Rehabs or spending life like they are living in hell. Failing to meet expectations, the feeling of being alone even when among family and friends, and the constant pressure to perform well but not succeeding.

It feels strange when I hear teenagers committing suicide because of studies, failure in life or betrayal from friends, and it feels even more strange when people say, the person must be weak to commit an act as childish as suicide. Well, they can never understand the real circumstances. I have always believed that we all are worth something, not necessarily a Doctor, Engineer or a Pilot but a different, still, an equally important identity.

But when people around you stop believing in your abilities (not necessarily by saying so), you too, soon, stop believing in yourself. And when someone suddenly says or does something to show that they have faith in your capabilities, you are both OVERWHELMED and SCARED to the point of just wanting to give up on everything. Overwhelmed that here you have a person who believes in you, and scared that you just might let them down too.

The pressure of society not only forces a child to end his life but also to lose that special ability and identity. I do not know how many(if any) parent(s) will read this article but I really want to request them all, that instead of comparing your child with their cousins or friends or anybody for that matter, you may please appreciate their abilities and support them in something they are best at... like you did during their childhood days... and tell them you are there. Even if they are not like someone you have wanted them to be!!!

Invisible Bonds!!!

July 23, 2009

(I wrote it When I was 12yrs)

One day I was shouting
n blaming god for everything,

I said i don't believe in you
and
for me you are nothing...

I sat with some tears thinking that no one cares
I closed my eyes and get surprised
as god was with me there...

God looked at me with a warm smile
and I was silent for that while

he hold my hands and show his view

said, " I am here for helping you"!!!

He sat with me and asked with cheer

what happened to you oh my dear?

just tell me with an open heart

as I am for you here...

I asked him " Am I dreaming"?
I told what I am feeling
he said- no, this is reality
for you my time is eternity...

I said - I am all alone here

no one loves me, and no one care

I want a shoulder to cry on
I need some love that I can share ...

He said "you are so beautiful",
so charming and so true

though there were times you did something

you know you should not do...
But you have been forgiven and
at last you are free

I know how much you love this world
how much you care for me...

I know you are surprised why I came here for you
you want to ask some questions
may be want to argue...

I said everyone pray to you
they do so much of care
you never went to bless them all just came to bless me here ...

He said that people pray to me but no one does much care you are someone who loves me most
so I came for you here...
I thanked him for his company,
his blessings and his love -
just two seconds and blink of eye
he vanished far above...

Gender Bender : You and I!!!

July 20, 2009

Men are simple beings, they can survive a whole weekend with only three things:beer, boxer shorts and batteries for the remote control... (Diana Jordan)

At the age of eleven women acquire a poise and an ability to handle difficult situation which a man, if he is lucky, manages to achieve somewhere in the late seventies...(P.G. Wodehouse)

These are just few quotations written by the great scholars. But as it is said: Gender issues started with the first creation of God - Adam n Eve. And the whole problem occurred because of a silly fruit. Poor Eve, I am sure she didn't even know that she will be blamed for all the generations just because of an APPLE!!! And then Adam, completely devoted to Eve committed the same mistake again.

Whether it is the famous story of Adam n Eve or Gen Y, men and women are considered as two completely different creatures trying to cope up with each other. You can not live with them and you can not live without them, they say! The most frequently expressed complaint women have is - Men do not listen!!! And the only thing men complain about is - Women talk a lot!!!

From choices to interests and thoughts, the only word that comes in mind is- DIFFERENT!!! We have always imagined the kind of person we would love to be with. But is it possible or rather necessary to have someone with same thoughts and interests? Rather most of the time we end up breaking a relationship with someone we have always wanted and then search for articles or read books in order to understand opposite sex.

We change ourselves according to them, we do what they like, wear they want. Girls change the way they look or behave so that their boy will love them and boys try all the tricks in the universe to impress the girl of their dream and then the basic reason of break up is- You have changed!!

We do not realise that the other person chose us over everybody else! No theories or research is needed to fall in love or to make others fall in love with you. As Ashley Judd said in the movie Someone Like You : "We are not animals so no cow theory works here, but, sometimes you open the barn door, or the bedroom door, or the hospital door, and you find the real thing.

You find someone who can sit with you when you are at your absolute worst, when your face looks like a punching bag and he can still looks at you and tells you "You are the most beautiful person I have ever seen!" And you suddenly realise that's the one you have always wanted, not the one in the Fairy Tales!!!

If I Were A boy!!!

July 19, 2009

From the day I was born and ever since I was old enough to think for myself, I've wondered why I was born a girl and not a guy.

Being a guy would have been so much easier! No, lets not get into all the gender bias-cum-feminist discussion...that's not where I'm getting at(at least today). It's just that I would have preferred to be a guy...all for stupid trivial reasons.....like not having to dress up and look your best every time or not having to comb your hair every day, you get to wear all those over-sized and baggy clothes.

You are allowed to roam on the streets of your neighborhood wearing old faded shorts at all time of the day and night.Walk out of the house anytime you want to, catch up with your friends, drink beer with them, discuss girls and you won't even get frantic calls from your parents about where you are and how you plan to get back home.

The joy of having a HUGE appetite and being able to digest all the food without thinking about the weight related issues. Life would have been so much more WONDERFUL! Not that being a girl is awful, it also has its own merits, but then, one always feels that the grass is greener on the other side!

I've always envied my cousins. Most of 'em are guys and are nice enough to include me in their expeditions and conversations but it's just not the same!

That's my brand, Dude!!!

July 17, 2009

I recently read a very interesting article in one of the national dailies. Though, the article was primarily about urbanization and consumerism, a particular point made by the author about branded apparel and other accessories caught my attention.

Being a devout follower of the latest Adidas and Nike shoes/sports apparel and dreaming of SOMEDAY owning at least one of the two super brands (wishful thinking!), the article gave a whole new dimension to my perception of brands.

The author threw light on an aspect of branded materials that I had never particularly thought about. His take was that, we as consumers actually end up paying the mother companies of various brands we wear for advertising and promoting their brands by wearing their logos instead of it being the other way round!! So basically, when I wear an Adidas jacket with its '3 blocks' on the left hand corner, I'm actually endorsing the brand without being paid for it, rather paying for it.

It's funny how even though we are all sub-consciously aware of this fact, most of us still crave for those 'branded utilities.' All I can say is that whoever started the trend definitely had more than just a few Grey cells!

"Still I rise" by Maya Angleou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Barney and The Bro Code!!!

July 12, 2009

Those who are constant followers of the series "How I met Met Your Mother" do not need any introduction to Barney and The Bro Code, and those who do not follow the series: Trust me guys you gotta watch this one...

Barney is best described as: Someone who likes to create crazy situations and then sit back and watch it all go down...he lives by The Bro code and is always willing to offer his opinion... So here comes a manual guide for all men :- "The Bro Code"

  • A pub, disco or an office meeting a man shall always wear a suit.
  • Thou shalt not sleep with your Bro’s ex-girlfriend (lols:P).
  • A Bro is always entitled to do something stupid, as long as the rest of his Bros are doing it.
  • Bro never admits he can't drive. Even after an accident.
  • A Bro doesn't let another Bro get a tattoo, particularly a tattoo of a girls name.
  • A Bro never sends a greeting card to another Bro.
  • If a chick inquires about another Bro's sexual history, a Bro shall honor the 'rode of silence' and play dumb. Better to have women think all men are stupid than tell the truth.
  • A Bro never dances with his hands above his head.
  • Unless he has children, a Bro shall not wear his cell phone on a belt clip.
  • In a scenario in which two or more Bros are engaged in entertainment of the adult variety, one Bro is forbidden from intentionally or unintentionally touching another Bro in ANY capacity. Winking is also kind of a no-no.
  • If a Bro become stricken with engagement, his Bros shall stage an intervention and attempt to heal him. This is more commonly known as "a bachelor party."
  • Real Bro never cries and also a Bro never applies sunscreen to another Bro :P
  • A Bro never wears pink. Not even in Europe.
  • Bros don't cuddle.
  • A Bro never asks for directions when lost but may ask for directions to a hot chick who seems to know the area.

A New Life!!!

July 07, 2009

How many times have you experienced a moment when there's no hope and you got the solution???

When you are all alone, upset, and a kid arrives, smiling at you??? My mornings are usually pleasant, but today it was dull - I felt something strange, a thing called intuition (I dunno if you believe in it).

I was aware of the fact that something is gonna happen. I got a call that my cab guy is ill and won't come for a pick. I decided to take an auto and reached office. I did not feel like working, somehow I managed, but the feeling was still.

A friend asked me, "if I want a lift as there's no cab today??" I said yes and we left for home in the evening. On our way; after few kilometers, I felt something. We realized that the breaks are not working properly and I thought if only I had little more time, there's so much I wanna do.

I don't wanna die, not so soon. I have heard people say how it feels to have a death-like experience but trust me its much more scary than one can imagine. Somehow we survived as the speed was normal. Just minor injuries. I reached home and kissed my mom and told her I love her. That moment taught me the importance of life.

I realized how important people are to me, there's so much in my mind I want to share and how lucky I am to be alive :)

Should Times of India's Reviews be Trusted???

July 04, 2009

I was one of those who loved to watch every movie and impatiently wait for a new release, but after my experience of so many poor scripted movies,  I have decided not to watch first day first show of any Bollywood attempt.

I wonder how almost every movie in our country is rated 'average' even if it deserves a poor rating. Day before yesterday, even after my friend's not so good review on the movie NEW YORK, I decided to go for it just because Times of India (claimed to be a no. 1 newspaper in India) rated New York as an outstanding attempt by Mr. Kabir Khan.

While watching the movie, it seemed, what he wanted to show- is how the 9/11 incident affected brown skinned men in New York, but with no depth on a serious topic like this. The only affecting scene in the movie is when Samir(John) is detained and tortured for nine months without a shred evidence.

Otherwise, the screenplay is fluffy. There's also a remarkable lack of tension even when people are being shot and bombs are being placed. Neil's expressionless acting is of no use and John and Kat are just their usual self.

Irfan is the only character one may watch, even though he failed to prove any worth of his so serious plan. The end which should have ideally given you bumps for a topic like this only leaves you itching to get out of the theature.

Saddled with a plot- holed script and poor performances from half of its star cast. It is a long and tiresome movie, but a five starred rating by TOI's critics shows they don't really bother to watch the whole movie before giving a review, as this is not the first time they have rated a non - deserving attempt as an outstanding one.

Now may be we should think twice before reading these reviews movies are rated on I DO NOT KNOW WHAT BASIS???

Three Stages Of life...

July 02, 2009

It's kind of strange how the different stages of life give a whole new meaning to every sentence.

How the alphabets mingle to create a whole new story. I still remember, when I was a kid how I used to follow my Moral Science lessons and my favorite quotation was "EARLY TO BED AND EARLY TO RISE , MAKES A MAN HEALTHY, WEALTHY, AND WISE" It's seems so funny how I used to mug my poems then. How every lesson taught was important.

Though, with the growing years, I turned into a crazy brat and the quotation took a whole new meaning.

Now my motto was "LATE TO BED AND LATE TO RISE, I AM BORN HEALTHY, WEALTHY AND WISE" No matter how researchers claim that the teenage is the most complicated time, but deep inside, I am sure, even they miss those naughty teenage pranks. That first crush, and the time when a stylish haircut really does matter!!! Full attendance whole month because of a recent crush and those endless tuition classes. But as they say, "Every good thing comes to an end"

These beautiful years leave us with great memories to cherish, and a stage arrives, where we have a judgment for every single thing, where we can even understand things we do not want to, and the motto becomes "LATE TO BED AND EARLY TO RISE, TOO MANY BILLS TO PAY THE PRICE".

RIP "MICHAEL JACKSON"!!!

July 01, 2009

Neither am I a proud owner of MJ's music collection nor am I a big fan, but yes, as a true music lover, I sincerely appreciate some of his songs and strongly agree with the fact that he was one of a kind- an amazing, amazing artist.

Though, there were times he did things that he should not do. But now that he is no more we may remember him for his extraordinary contribution to the world of music and nothing else.

"If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with" quoted Jackson once.

Tremendous sales of his albums while he was alive, and the number of slowdowns suffered by search engines right after his death is a proof that: Yes, he was loved or rather is loved by millions of people.

At the height of his career, Jackson was indisputably one of the biggest star in the world, selling over 500 million albums. It is not wrong to say that his only competition was - HIMSELF!!!

That famous moonwalk step, plastic surgeries and his creative music videos - Michael Jackson was unique!!! Though, it is impossible to ignore a million controversies he was confronted with, whether it's the 1993 child sexual abuse accusation (debatable), or 2002 Berlin controversy, Jackson made news for a lot of  wrong reasons.

Now, the news is everywhere, but I just felt like it was worth mentioning here. It's up to us which Michael Jackson we want to remember - A man full of controversies or someone that broke the color barrier in music industry- A REAL LEGEND!!!

Must Read!!!

Sometimes a line is written in a manner that even after hundred years one can relate to it... Literary masters like Shakespeare and great poets like Wordsworth left us with some of the finest pieces of English literature... Rudyard Kipling's "If" is one of the precious works that I can never get tired of reading : A master piece that every reader must read :-

"IF"

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you

But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream–and not make dreams your master,
If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;

If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And–which is more–you’ll be a Man, my son!
