When we hurt those we love!!!

September 24, 2009

Bill Vaughn once said, "A child is a being who gets almost as much fun out of a fifty-six dollar set of swings as he does out of finding a small green worm".

The statement itself is filled with innocence and purity. They say, "Child is the father of the man and the future of tomorrow". But with the growing exploitation and the way we are depriving him of his basic rights, the future seems dark and grim. Warmth happens to be a basic necessity, but it seems difficult to differentiate between love and lust.

On one hand where a touch makes us feel loved and cared, it can also give us a feeling of rebelliousness and hurt. Depends ...when, where, from whom, and how we are touched. For a child it is not only difficult to say if the touch is safe or unsafe but they are too alone to complain about it. And those who can differentiate are too afraid to protest.
This young girl kept from sight
crying into the middle of the night
she fears that others will sense the shame
but was this girl really to blame?

This little girl who was full of belief
could not from him seem to find relief
she feels so dirty with her clothes which are tore
when she is being flung on the bedroom floor

this broken child lost her innocence at a very young age
through a trusted man's deliberate drunken rage
her little broken heart was full of pain
through the rest of her life it would stain

people would see the bruises that lay upon her face
she wanted and longed for her special place
while he was looking around
this little girl couldn't make a sound
she couldn't have her own bed

he would be there touching her instead
taking her clothes off he would touch
this haunted her little heart so much
she just wanted him to understand

but instead she got the back of his hand
night after night she endured this pain
never to be happy ever again!!!

In the recent survey it is stated that around 53% children in India are the victim of child abuse. Unsafe touching starts from the very first age and unluckily most abusers are known to the victims. As I write this, one little girl might be crying out in pain, one little boy is begging not to be touched anymore.

Many children live through everyday being abused sexually, physically, and emotionally. “More than two million cases of neglect and physical abuse are reported annually. The only way to prevent child abuse is to spread awareness. Many NGOs are working towards this cause and I hope with help of sex education in schools children will be able to differentiate and understand if they are being loved or betrayed!!!

Longer Than 55 Fiction!!!

September 19, 2009

It is a story of a young guy who always used to wish he was a fly, so he could buzz around and go in people's houses and listen to what they are saying. He always used to pray, " I wish I could be a fly and listen to people talking", and then he would spend hours thinking, what it would be like to be a fly.

One night he had a dream that he was a fly and buzzing around he came upon this house that belonged to his beautiful teenage crush. A girl, he always wanted to be with. He thought to himself, "I should go into that girl's house first and listen to her conversations," but neither the door nor the windows were open. Then he thought, " May be I will just ring the bell and when she will open the door, I will buzz into her house and land on the wall to listen to all her conversations", but to his dismay, flies are not strong enough to ring the bell.

He decided to wait until she opens the door or the window herself. Then finally the door opened, and he buzzed in real quick and landed on the wall admiring the girl and her beauty. After sometime the phone rang and the girl picked it up and started a conversation. He flew and sat on a table, which smelled pretty good to him. He was so excited that he could finally sit so close to her and hear her talk. But when the girl started the conversation, he could not understand a word.

The guy got so pissed and said, "This really sucks!!! I do not want to be a fly anymore and I am getting out of here", but when he went to buzz off, he could not move. "Argh! I can not move, it feels like my feet is glued. Can you give me a hand", he said to the other fly.

"I can not move either, my feet are also stuck" said the other fly. He looked around and said to himself, " I wish, I had never wished that I was a fly, I want to be a human again". He was so scared that finally he woke up and it took him a minute to realize that he is still a human. He went to his balcony and saw his crush standing there, smiling :) and he realized how lucky he is to get his identity back and decided to try his best to get the girl !!!

P.S. - In the recent best seller " The secret" it is stated that, 'we do not always want what we ask for all our lives' and with this short story, I just wanted to convey that it's a great feeling to be yourself as grass is not always greener on the other side and we can achieve a lot with the way we are even if we lack certain qualities, also we can not realize how lucky we are until we experience the problems that others face :) ... Hope you enjoyed :)

Victim of your own thoughts !!!

August 30, 2009

Friends call him a live cricket encyclopedia. And why not, Shimu is a die hard cricket fan. Today is the day he was waiting for a long time. India v/s Australia final. After witnessing India’s bowling performance in the first half, Shimu was quite sure India will be lifting up the cup.

While watching the Indian batting in the middle overs, he left his seat to grab a cuppa of coffee. When he returned back, to his dismay, he noticed India lost a key wicket. “Look at those crazy fellows, one good chance they have got to beat Aussies and they are fucking it up.” He said angrily to himself. This sequence continued a couple of times.

Every time he left his seat, India lost a wicket. He got desperate and fear of losing started grappling his mind. He decided not to leave his seat until the match gets over. With more ups and downs, however without losing any wicket, India won the game. Shimu was probably the happiest man in the world; however, he became a victim of one of the most incomprehensible phenomenon of the world.

Any idea what am I talking about here? Well this phenomenon is called Superstition, which has gripped millions of people around the world centuries after centuries and has forced them to believe in something which can never be explained using normal equations of cause and effect.

Most superstitions are usually harmless. Wearing your lucky shirt, lucky tie on the day of your interview and writing an exam with a lucky pen. So, what exactly is the problem with being superstitious? Superstition is so powerful that it leads you to attribute your successes to something outside yourself. This essentially means that you are held back from unleashing your own inner strengths and abilities. Loss of confidence.

First problem!!! Even if something negative happens one is not going to attribute the failure of the outcome to the superstition. The person will start blaming other factors and not the superstition. One never kills his superstition and because of this, the pile of superstition keeps on increasing and then we graciously pass the baggage to our children who follow these superstitions blindly. Second problem!!!

Well, these little rituals of magic are so much part of our culture that we do not question, forget questioning, we don't even notice. Don’t let superstition rule your mind and wreck your life. Instead, try hard to overcome your fears by increasing your confidence, inspiring authority in your decisions and trust in your actions. You will then realize and enjoy the person who is truly you and not someone like Shimu.

Untitled !!!

August 25, 2009

Sometimes...I wonder what people mean when they say they are single and lonely. I have always believed, being lonely and being alone are two different statements altogether. Though, being alone is momentary, loneliness gives you a feeling of solitude for life.

In one of the stories of Times of India, I have read about a man who sits in his rocking chair nursing a scotch every evening when the dusk sets in, listening to an old Mohd. Rafi's song ...
Dekhi zamaane ki yaari, bichde sabhi baari his calm surrounding with a sense of peace and a day well spent. No broken hearts here, but a man unwinding after a day at work. His book lying next to his pillow, the way he left it last night and a collection of around 2500 DVDs to choose from.

On the other hand a single women is a busy professional, juggling career and home, handling her life and loving it the way it is, with the guarantee that there's no place in her life for any man.

Both the stories make me wonder if the characters are lonely or alone. Is it necessary to plan our whole life with one person or it's just a social responsibility? Can we lead a peaceful life all alone just being ourselves and doing things we want to do once we set our mind to it?

A time when we stop wandering and settle down just for ourselves or our dreams wrapped in a secure life and comfortable around ourselves. Would that be a selfish or self-centered existence or freedom. Living our life to the fullest and wishing to make every dream come true, and the best of our existence.

I remember how I reacted after reading a statement (There's nothing called ideal match) on a fellow blogger's blog today. I got offended and told him I did not like the statement, but now I wonder only if he was all wrong. A feeling of single hood not only gives you a sense of freedom but also a peaceful and fulfilled life.

Movies, books, music, arts, hobbies, travelling, social work, friends and lots of dreams ~ life has hell lot of variety it seems that might limit itself because of many adjustments and sacrifices done in a relationship. Is it really necessary to have a partner for life or the emptiness can be filled with a large number of friends and variety of things that leave no space for one's other half.

A single person is free to pick and choose as many individuals as friends or to connect with the whole human species with no boundaries to set in. Sometimes, people you share some magical moments with become the most cherished memory of your life, much more important than the one you spend your whole life with.

Just because someone is alone does not mean he is lonely and with so many things to explore in this beautiful life, there's no chance to get bored. Rather we can devote our lives in helping those in need, those who have nothing. Isn't someone who cares and loves people but not bound to any one person is much better than the one with a companion but not satisfied and happy with their life?

I Have Learned From Life !!!

August 18, 2009

It's a weird weird life. when you expect so much, it gives you a little and when you sit down with zero hope, it provides more than you have wished for. Though I am just 21 yrs and not old enough to explain what to expect from this unexpected life. But there are few things I have learned that I would love to share

  • Lord Buddha said, 'We achieve peace through meditation' yet I have learned, the most beautiful and peace giving thing in the world is to watch a little child asleep.
  • Share everything you want to in life with friends and with people you care for but never trust someone who says, 'trust me I can keep this secret.'
  • No matter how rich we become, we can never buy what really matters in life.
  • Sometimes crying is best response.
  • There will always be someone in your life who annoys you no matter where you are and you will love it eventually and miss them when they are not there.
  • Usually, it's better to shut up but sometimes it's necessary to argue.
  • Believe me on this one - it's not worth a calorie until n unless it is a CHOCOLATe :).
  • Though many people believe that you are what you wear or what your shoes tells about you but I have learned- Do not judge a book by its cover.
  • Well, I am always in trouble because of honesty but I still believe honesty can solve any problem.
  • May be we should never let go of our deepest desire. But I have learned- letting go is the only way to keep something or someone in life.
  • It's good to be yourself and maintain your dignity. But I have learned - The word 'WE' always sounds better than the word 'I'.
  • We will always come across many intolerable people but there's still a difference between being angry and being cruel.
  • One thing I wish I have learned when I was 8 yrs is that - I wish I could have told my dad that I love him more time, before he passed away.
Two things I have learned in my TEENS :
  • Never be close friends with your best friend's boyfriend. Her boyfriend might start liking you and that can create problems in relationships (examples better hidden :P).
  • And finally - I am sure you all will agree on this one - Just do not expect your money back if you have lend it to a close friend... Friends will be friends :)

Read It Till The End!!!

A father passing by his daughter's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was neat & tidy. He suddenly saw an envelope propped up on the center of the pillow. It was addressed "Dad"
with the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter:

Dear Dad,

It is with great regret & sorrow that I'm writing you, but I'm leaving home.I had to elope with my new boyfriend Tory because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom & you. I've been finding real passion with Tory & he is so nice to me. I know when you meet him you'll like him too -even with all his piercing, tattoos, & motorcycle clothes. But it's not only the passion Dad, I'm pregnant and Tory said that he wants me to have the kid & that we'll be very happy together. Even though Tory is much older than I am (but,40 isn't so old these days... is it?), and has no money, really these things shouldn't stand in the way of our relationship, don't you agree?
Tory has a great CD collection; he already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. It's true he has other girlfriends as well but I know he'll be faithful to me in his own way. Tory taught me that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone and he'll be growing it for us and we'll trade it with our friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so that Tory can be cured; he sure deserves a long life!!
Don't worry Dad, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure we'll be back to visit so you can get to know your grandchildren.
Your loving daughter,
At the bottom of the page were the letters 'PTO',
Hands trembling, her father turned the sheet, and read:

P. S: Dad, none of the above is true.
I'm over at the
neighbor's house.I just wanted to remind you that there are worse
things in life than my report card that's in my desk's center drawer.
Please sign it and call when it is safe for me
to come home. I love you !!

Life Is a Bubble

August 09, 2009

Life is full of bubbles. Millions of bubbles. BIG bubbles. SMALL bubbles. These bubbles float around us. We can't see them. They are microscopic. They are at the alpha level of the mind.

Each bubble contains a dream, an idea, a wish, a desire. Once in a while a bubble floats into the conscious state of the mind. The bubble grows. Bigger and bigger. Day after day. When it reaches its optimum level, its all we can think about. Day and night.

All you want in life is that little dream inside the bubble to come true. And once that wish takes over your mind-body-soul, the bubble BURSTS. Just like that. Just as inconspicuously as it had surfaced in the first place. For a second you're paralyzed, not realizing what has happened.

You don't know what to do, where to go. Your heart breaks. Your mind freezes. Your soul cries.

Time passes. And then slowly another bubble floats into the conscious state of the mind. This one too grows bigger and bigger, day after day........until.......

Life becomes a full circle.

Miracles Happen, Just Believe!!!

August 07, 2009

Though, I do not intend to write about miracles here, but this is what happens when you wake up at 2 A.M. with so much in your heart and with the most beautiful dream you have ever seen. They say, " Miraculous moments of life can be found in the simplest way, in the chirping of the birds, innocent smile of a new born or a rainbow".

'The sky knows when its time to snow
You don't need to teach a seed to grow
It's just another ordinary miracle today...'

When I first heard this song by Sarah Mclachlan... I just smiled... and that is when I realised what Einstein meant when he wrote " There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle" or what Paulo Coelho wanted to convey through Santiago in The Alchemist or the meaning of the famous Chinese saying "Be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it".

Have you ever used the phrase- It was destined to me or accidentally discovered something fortunate while looking for something else or just decided to let go of the most precious thing to test your destiny.Isn't it strange when you have prayed for a specific purpose and the prayer is answered, when there's no earthly reason something wonderful has happened, or when all hopes are gone and an opportunity arrives out of nowhere and leave you amazed.

Miracles happen to everyone everyday, however most people do not see miracles because they are simply not looking for them. In fact, I guess to live at all is a miracle enough. It might sound like a Fairy Tale or may be a few words from some school kid, but miracles do happen to those who believe in them. Moments and miracles are everywhere, just look around and do not just believe in miracles - depend on them.

Isn't it remarkable?
Like every time a raindrop falls

It's just another ordinary miracle today

Birds in winter have their fling

And always make it home by springIt's just another ordinary miracle todayWhen you wake up everydayPlease don't throw your dreams awayHold them close to your heart
we are all a part of
The Ordinary Miracle...

And with the music of these beautiful lines by Sarah Mclachlan, I think I want to sleep a little more as it's just 2:30 A.M. and I wish to see the same dream and who knows it might just come true and turns into another ordinary miracle :)

August 02, 2009

Hey I have been tagged by two really creative bloggers DREAMERGURL and SRIVATSAN...It's kinda fun and as I am very much allowed to add and subtract the categories, I have decided to experiment .. Hope you all like it ... And thanks so much Sri and dreamergurl :) ... here comes the tag!!!

I Rule, You Rule, We Rule
The idea is, to list five items in each category and not necessarily in order of liking. You can always add or subtract categories according to your will. Then tag five lovely people to be the next ones to take this quiz.

Favorite Words:

  • Interesting: This is one word that makes me excited. Anything that comes under the category turns me on :P
  • Words: There is so much in my heart I express through words and also my blog is still alive because of words :)
  • Mysterious: This word is full of all hidden mysteries. Kinda difficult to explain.
  • Obsession: Too obsessed with obsession. This word puts all my crazy thoughts in a single bucket.
  • Miracle: Einstein wrote, "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." I prefer the latter one.

Favorite characters (Fiction) :
  • Duchess from The Duchess of Malfi : This bold character describes that a women has liberty in this 'so called' men's world.
  • Santiago from The Alchemist : This character made me realize  it is never silly to chase your dreams.
  • Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice : After reading the book I have decided...I am not gonna settle down in life for anyone less than MR. Darcy.
  • Gopal from The Inscrutable Americans : His innocence will take your heart away for sure.

Words They Must Ban :
  • LOLS: Though I myself use this word a lot. But its kinda sucks. Every time when we have nothing to say we LOL, and it annoys me a lot.
  • Etc. : This is the most complicated word I have ever read. It seems like an alternate for knowledge. When you have nothing in mind say etc etc.
  • Blah Blah : Now this word has no real reason to survive. It cuts all the details and the poor sentence becomes dull.
  • Loser: This word is the biggest loser in itself and those who use it for others are big time losers too.
  • Wateva : Attitude without personality is what this word is all about.

Favorite One Liners :

  • Less is more, when more is too much.
  • Well behaved women seldom make history.
  • Reality is a nice place , but I would not want to live there.
  • A clean room is a sign of a broken computer.
  • Never get in fight with ugly people, they have nothing to lose.

And five creative chosen ones are :)1. Amit and his romantic blog : Hopeless Romantic2. Lovesick from the blog : Obsessions

3. Ramblings of Subhayan in : Wrahoolz Wramblingz

4. Angie from the blog : Rehab Reject

5. Opinions of Bharathi from: The Naked Opinion.

Have fun ... reply soon ... :) cheers!!!

Last Letter!!!

July 28, 2009

Gabriel was a famous writer from Colombia and has a form of cancer which is terminal. He has sent a farewell letter to his friends before his death (in poetic form which was turned in a letter format afterwards)...

"If God, for a second, forgot what I have become and granted me a little bit more of life, I would use it to the best of my ability. I wouldn't possibly, say everything that is in my mind, but I would be more thoughtful of all I say. I would give merit to things not for what they are worth, but for what they mean to express...

I would sleep less, I would dream more, because I know that for every minute that we close our eyes, we waste 60 seconds of light. I would walk while others stop; I would stay awake while others sleep. If God would give me a little bit more of life, I would dress in a simple manner, I would place myself in front of the sun, leaving not only my body, but my soul naked at its mercy….

To all, I would say how mistaken they are when they think that they stop falling in love when they grow old, without knowing that they grow old when they stop falling in love….

I would give wings to children, but I would leave it to them to learn how to fly by themselves. To old people I would say that death doesn't arrive when they grow old, but with forgetfulness. I have learned so much with you all, I have learned that everybody wants to live on top of the mountain, without knowing that true happiness is obtained in the journey taken & the form used to reach the top of the hill.
I have learned that when a newborn baby holds, with its little hand, his father's finger, it has trapped him for the rest of his life.

I have learned that a man has the right and obligation to look down at another man, only when that man needs help to get up from the ground.. Say always what you feel, not what you think. If I knew that today is the last time that I am going to see you asleep, I would hug you with all my strength and I would pray to the Lord to let me be the guardian angel of your soul…

If I knew that these are the last moments to see you, I would say "I love you".
There is always tomorrow, and life gives us another opportunity to do things right, but in case I am wrong, and today is all that is left to me, I would love to tell you how much I love you & that I will never forget you. Tomorrow is never guaranteed to anyone, young or old.

Today could be the last time to see your loved ones, which is why you mustn't wait; do it today, in case tomorrow never arrives. I am sure you will be sorry you wasted the opportunity today to give a smile, a hug, a kiss, and that you were too busy to grant them their last wish.

From you I have learned so many things,
but in truth they won't be of much use,
for when I keep them within this suitcase,
unhappily shall I be dying.

With much love,

Your Friend,

Gabriel Garcia Marquez

"When I was a child, I wanted to draw like an adult.
When I became an adult, I always wanted to draw like a child."

These are the words of the famous artist Pablo Picasso. When I first heard my father recite these words, I was around 8 and at that time, I didn't quite see much logic in it. Now, 13 years later, I have understood the meaning of these words like never before.

My passion for various things might have evolved over the years, from books to music to tennis to Science, but there is still a part of me that longs for that old love for art and my childhood days, when even if you make a rectangular shape orange your parents and teachers appreciated it.

This life has got something for everyone and as they say "we all have a purpose here." But it's sad when we see people in Rehabs or spending life like they are living in hell. Failing to meet expectations, the feeling of being alone even when among family and friends, and the constant pressure to perform well but not succeeding.

It feels strange when I hear teenagers committing suicide because of studies, failure in life or betrayal from friends, and it feels even more strange when people say, the person must be weak to commit an act as childish as suicide. Well, they can never understand the real circumstances. I have always believed that we all are worth something, not necessarily a Doctor, Engineer or a Pilot but a different, still, an equally important identity.

But when people around you stop believing in your abilities (not necessarily by saying so), you too, soon, stop believing in yourself. And when someone suddenly says or does something to show that they have faith in your capabilities, you are both OVERWHELMED and SCARED to the point of just wanting to give up on everything. Overwhelmed that here you have a person who believes in you, and scared that you just might let them down too.

The pressure of society not only forces a child to end his life but also to lose that special ability and identity. I do not know how many(if any) parent(s) will read this article but I really want to request them all, that instead of comparing your child with their cousins or friends or anybody for that matter, you may please appreciate their abilities and support them in something they are best at... like you did during their childhood days... and tell them you are there. Even if they are not like someone you have wanted them to be!!!

Invisible Bonds!!!

July 23, 2009

(I wrote it When I was 12yrs)

One day I was shouting
n blaming god for everything,

I said i don't believe in you
for me you are nothing...

I sat with some tears thinking that no one cares
I closed my eyes and get surprised
as god was with me there...

God looked at me with a warm smile
and I was silent for that while

he hold my hands and show his view

said, " I am here for helping you"!!!

He sat with me and asked with cheer

what happened to you oh my dear?

just tell me with an open heart

as I am for you here...

I asked him " Am I dreaming"?
I told what I am feeling
he said- no, this is reality
for you my time is eternity...

I said - I am all alone here

no one loves me, and no one care

I want a shoulder to cry on
I need some love that I can share ...

He said "you are so beautiful",
so charming and so true

though there were times you did something

you know you should not do...
But you have been forgiven and
at last you are free

I know how much you love this world
how much you care for me...

I know you are surprised why I came here for you
you want to ask some questions
may be want to argue...

I said everyone pray to you
they do so much of care
you never went to bless them all just came to bless me here ...

He said that people pray to me but no one does much care you are someone who loves me most
so I came for you here...
I thanked him for his company,
his blessings and his love -
just two seconds and blink of eye
he vanished far above...

Gender Bender : You and I!!!

July 20, 2009

Men are simple beings, they can survive a whole weekend with only three things:beer, boxer shorts and batteries for the remote control... (Diana Jordan)

At the age of eleven women acquire a poise and an ability to handle difficult situation which a man, if he is lucky, manages to achieve somewhere in the late seventies...(P.G. Wodehouse)

These are just few quotations written by the great scholars. But as it is said: Gender issues started with the first creation of God - Adam n Eve. And the whole problem occurred because of a silly fruit. Poor Eve, I am sure she didn't even know that she will be blamed for all the generations just because of an APPLE!!! And then Adam, completely devoted to Eve committed the same mistake again.

Whether it is the famous story of Adam n Eve or Gen Y, men and women are considered as two completely different creatures trying to cope up with each other. You can not live with them and you can not live without them, they say! The most frequently expressed complaint women have is - Men do not listen!!! And the only thing men complain about is - Women talk a lot!!!

From choices to interests and thoughts, the only word that comes in mind is- DIFFERENT!!! We have always imagined the kind of person we would love to be with. But is it possible or rather necessary to have someone with same thoughts and interests? Rather most of the time we end up breaking a relationship with someone we have always wanted and then search for articles or read books in order to understand opposite sex.

We change ourselves according to them, we do what they like, wear they want. Girls change the way they look or behave so that their boy will love them and boys try all the tricks in the universe to impress the girl of their dream and then the basic reason of break up is- You have changed!!

We do not realise that the other person chose us over everybody else! No theories or research is needed to fall in love or to make others fall in love with you. As Ashley Judd said in the movie Someone Like You : "We are not animals so no cow theory works here, but, sometimes you open the barn door, or the bedroom door, or the hospital door, and you find the real thing.

You find someone who can sit with you when you are at your absolute worst, when your face looks like a punching bag and he can still looks at you and tells you "You are the most beautiful person I have ever seen!" And you suddenly realise that's the one you have always wanted, not the one in the Fairy Tales!!!

If I Were A boy!!!

July 19, 2009

From the day I was born and ever since I was old enough to think for myself, I've wondered why I was born a girl and not a guy.

Being a guy would have been so much easier! No, lets not get into all the gender bias-cum-feminist discussion...that's not where I'm getting at(at least today). It's just that I would have preferred to be a guy...all for stupid trivial not having to dress up and look your best every time or not having to comb your hair every day, you get to wear all those over-sized and baggy clothes.

You are allowed to roam on the streets of your neighborhood wearing old faded shorts at all time of the day and night.Walk out of the house anytime you want to, catch up with your friends, drink beer with them, discuss girls and you won't even get frantic calls from your parents about where you are and how you plan to get back home.

The joy of having a HUGE appetite and being able to digest all the food without thinking about the weight related issues. Life would have been so much more WONDERFUL! Not that being a girl is awful, it also has its own merits, but then, one always feels that the grass is greener on the other side!

I've always envied my cousins. Most of 'em are guys and are nice enough to include me in their expeditions and conversations but it's just not the same!

That's my brand, Dude!!!

July 17, 2009

I recently read a very interesting article in one of the national dailies. Though, the article was primarily about urbanization and consumerism, a particular point made by the author about branded apparel and other accessories caught my attention.

Being a devout follower of the latest Adidas and Nike shoes/sports apparel and dreaming of SOMEDAY owning at least one of the two super brands (wishful thinking!), the article gave a whole new dimension to my perception of brands.

The author threw light on an aspect of branded materials that I had never particularly thought about. His take was that, we as consumers actually end up paying the mother companies of various brands we wear for advertising and promoting their brands by wearing their logos instead of it being the other way round!! So basically, when I wear an Adidas jacket with its '3 blocks' on the left hand corner, I'm actually endorsing the brand without being paid for it, rather paying for it.

It's funny how even though we are all sub-consciously aware of this fact, most of us still crave for those 'branded utilities.' All I can say is that whoever started the trend definitely had more than just a few Grey cells!
